WIC

WIC is a nutrition program that provides:

  • Healthy foods such as milk, juice, cereal, cheese, eggs, infant formula, tuna and carrots
  • Nutrition education to improve family health
  • Breastfeeding advice and support
  • Referrals to doctors, dentists, and other community services

WIC helps:

  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding moms
  • New moms with babies under six months old
  • Babies
  • Children younger than five years old

While most states use the maximum guidelines, states may set lower income limit standards. A person or certain family members who participate in other benefits programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP), Medicaid, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families automatically meet the income eligibility requirement.

Effect on Family Size with a Pregnancy
An applicant pregnant woman who does not meet income eligibility requirements based on her current family size and income shall be reassessed for eligibility based on a family size increased by one, or by the number of expected multiple births. The increased family size must have applicant agreement.

Note:  Proof of multiple births is required following standard procedure.

In situations where the family size has been increased for a pregnant woman, the same increased family size should also be used for any of the categorically eligible family members.
