The hatred and violence displayed during the deadly siege on our Capitol last week were both shocking, yet at the same time not that surprising.

Our country continues to grapple with the threat of COVID and the deep political turmoil that led to last week’s events.  I am reminded that the Children’s Friend mission to serve Rhode Island’s most vulnerable young children is as important as ever and needed now more than ever. Education and opportunity go hand and hand in building a strong future for our children and families, our communities, and our nation.

Young minds are also witnessing this chaos, uncertainty, and violence. Just as the past week’s events have inundated us with the 24/7 news cycle, our children are here with us, listening and watching. We must help and support them through this upheaval.

Fortunately, there are many resources to help us with this critical task.
