At Children’s Friend we believe when fathers are actively involved in their child’s life the whole family thrives.  We continue to actively engage fathers in all of our programs and services and are proud to further enhance our fatherhood initiatives through a workforce training program designed specifically for fathers.  Through collaborations with Amos House, Groundworks RI and The Steel Yard, our comprehensive job training program introduces participants to basic carpentry, environmental services and welding. Successful participants receive numerous certifications, including OSHA-10 certification; HAZWOPER-40 (Hazardous waste operation and removal) certification; Lead RRP (removal, renovation and painting); CPR/First Aid; Forklift training and a Metal Working certificate.  Throughout the 12-weeks, Dads also receive Job Readiness Training such as resume writing, job search techniques, and effective interviewing and communication skills.

In additional to gaining valuable employment skills our dads concurrently participate in parenting groups to further promote healthy relationships and positive parenting.

As an agency whose mission is focused on improving the well-being and healthy development of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable children, we have long recognized the important role fathers play.

Thank you to all of the Dads that are making a difference in their child’s life.

WHAT IS A DAD?

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail…
